May is a Month for Awareness

RibbonsImage via Wikipedia

It's only May 3rd and already I can tell this is going to be a very busy month.

So far, I am aware that this is Fibromyalgia Education and Awareness Month, National Hepatitis Awareness Month, National Mental Health Month, Lupus Awareness Month and World Lyme Disease Awareness Month. Many of the people I interact with online in the chronic illness community are people living with these conditions and diseases. Personally, I am living with hepatitis C and fibromyalgia and I have a family member and a good friend living with psychiatric disorders.

With so many good causes to support and raise awareness for this month, I feel a bit overwhelmed and at a loss to know where to start!

Perhaps the help I need I've found through the NaBloPoMo blogging theme for May: LOOK UP. I think this might be a gentle nudge from the universe, pushing me to write posts on how awareness about and treatment for each of these diseases is looking up. Sure, we may have a long way to go to get it right, but perhaps a look back can help get some perspective on how far things have come from the first time each of these conditions and diseases were diagnosed.

I'm looking forward to learning more and helping to spread awareness all month long.
