A Question: Why Should It Trouble Us?

Still-Life with a Skull, vanitas painting.Image via Wikipedia
A friend on Facebook asked:

There was a time when we were not: this gives us no concern. Why then should it trouble us that a time will come when we shall cease to be?

I replied:

Because now that we ARE, we dread ceasing to BE. (At least I do!)

Just Questions: The Mahogany Edition

NOTE: Just questions is an exercise that my Internet friend Karen introduced me to a few months ago. The purpose is to write about the questions you are contemplating in your mind, to put them out there into the world and sit with them. If you choose to comment on this post, please refrain from providing your answers to these questions, as this is not the reason I have posted them here. Rather, consider sharing some of your own questions...

The Theme from
Mahogany
(M. Masser/G. Gof
fin)
Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things
that life is showing you?
Where are you going to?
Do you know...?

Do you get what you're hoping for?
When you look behind you
there's no open doors,
what are you hoping for?
Do you know...?

My follow-up questions:

So what if you don't know where you are going to?

So what if you don't like what life is showing you?

So what if you don't get what you are hoping for?

So what then?

So what do you do when your health, time and again, over and over, in the most unpredictable ways, prevents you from pursuing your dreams, goals and purpose?

Is there a song for that?
